When ‘starvation’ becomes key to your weight loss, no longer will you be able to accept a healthy lifestyle change to achieve weight loss and age gracefully. By restricting yourself from nutrient rich foods, you are only adding to a listless skin, weak bones, and a dehydrated look.

MYTHS-

Being healthy is going on a diet. The problem with diets and exercise programs is that they end. The secret is to form a habit instead. Create a lifestyle modification. Healthy living doesn’t end when you can fit back into your old jeans or got your cholesterol under control. It’s a lifetime habit.

Being healthy means having no fun. Contrary to beliefs, you don’t have to be a martyr to be healthy. You can still go out, grab a bite, have a social life. Enjoying yourself is part of being human and it would be bad for your overall health if you were a perfect example of healthy living but unhappy. You would not stick with the plan for long.

Being healthy takes too much time. We all have busy lives and many priorities. Healthy living needs to fit into that, it just requires some forward thinking. There are some simple strategies you can use to fit health into your life by preparing an extra meal or spending one minute to decide on the healthiest option off the menu.

Being healthy is going on a fat-free diet. We believe if it is fat-free, we can eat as much as we want. Although it sounds correct but fat exists in and invisible form which we usually overlook and end up adding the excessive calories unintentionally. For eg- salad dressing, croutons, full fat dairy etc..

With all the myths we make erroneous decisions especially in the early age giving HEALTH the least importance and the lowest priority. It is only in the later when a symptomatci situation occurs is when food becomes an eye opener. Fatigue, tiredness, dry skin, early signs of aging, lethary and some of less complicated but serious health issues caused due to lack of nutrition and abuse caused to the body due to starvation and fad diets. This is when we would try and make amendments in our routine life. Health and healthy eating for every individual should be a graceful choice. Thus, overall fitness is going to make it easy to reach the finishing line.

To achieve this:

  • Include complex carbohydrates, proteins and good fats in your meals.
  • Complex carbohydrates like whole wheat flour, bran, oats & wheat flakes should be included instead of having simple carbohydrate like refined flours, white bread, pasta, corn flakes etc.
  • Include protein foods like skimmed milk, skimmed curds / yoghurts & low fat cottage cheese. Avoid whole fat milk. For non-vegetarians include eggs, chicken or fish in your meals instead of red meat or organ meat.
  • Include good fats (omega 3 fatty acids) like olive oil, flaxseed oil (supplement) or powder and fish oil.
  • Include water in the diet not at the point of a parching throat. Make it a compulsive habit to drink a glass of water every hour irrespective of the season.
  • Vitamins & minerals are of dire importance in the diet. Fruits & vegetables along with vitamin supplements like Vitamin C & E which are phenomenal antioxidants. Also Multivitamin and Calcium should be included.
